Suddenly on the Sony Vaio VGN-CS Series laptops, a set of horizontal lines about 1cm thick can appear at the bottom of the laptop screen. This can happen just over night, one minute the screen is fine, the next time you turn it on, and the lines are there! This unfortunately means that the screen is damaged and you will need a replacement screen.
This can sometimes be caused by the overheating of the screens inverter and thus damages just the bottom part of the screen. The best thing to do is before replacing the screen, run the laptop for an hour or so and feel around the bottom of the screen (where the inverter is placed). If it is quite hot to touch, then it is recommended that the inverter should also be changed.
